Session Submission Type: Symposium
Schools are the primary institutions to create cohesion among diverse student populations. School counselors, teachers, and all educators have an ethical responsibility to understand the implications of race, ethnicity, culture, gender, socio-economic status, the digital divide, social class, and sexual orientation in schools, in order to promote awareness and acceptance among all student groups. Researchers will present perspectives on the topics of: cultural competence, ability, race and ethnicity, and the digital divide and provide a context to challenge traditional beliefs about diversity in order to broaden the knowledge base of what counselors and educators need to consider to close the opportunity, information, and achievement gaps.
