Session Submission Type: Symposium
This symposium has three aims, the first of which is to honor a half-century of scholarship conducted by anthropologist Robert A. LeVine on the occasion of his 80th birthday. The second aim is to illustrate contemporary examples of LeVinian-inspired research utilizing anthropological methods--especially comparative and ethnographic studies--informed by psychological anthropology and cultural psychology, as such work continues to influence educational theory, policy and practice for diverse populations of learners. The third aim is to explore current initiatives and challenges related to understanding the cultural contexts of children's learning and education. Presenters include former students and colleagues engaged in the examination and translation of research on the cultural nature of development and learning. LeVine will provide concluding remarks.
