Session Submission Summary

Instructional Materials-Based Mathematics Education Reform in Urban Districts

Tue, April 17, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, East Room 1

Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session

Abstract

The objective of this session is to present findings from two research projects exploring curriculum materials-based mathematics education improvement efforts in urban districts. These projects both situate their work in urban districts with typical student populations, but that have made specific moves to improve the quality of mathematics instruction at the middle grades. They also both aim to explore the “black box” and relate the supports available to and experiences of teachers to the quality of mathematics instruction and student learning. However, the projects pursue these aims in different ways and present different theoretical and methodological takes on these issues.
