Exploring and Testing More Comprehensive Policy Frameworks for Career and Technical Education

Abstract

Emphasis is placed on college and career readiness as the United States addresses educational obtainment and economic prosperity. Career and Technical Education (CTE) offers unique contributions in creating a culture of college and career readiness; however, many educational leaders and practitioners continue to embrace a paradigm of CTE that is rooted in the traditional aspects of “vocational education”. This symposium addresses the important role CTE plays in creating college and career ready citizens: by sharing national expectations of educational policies including programs of study; by highlighting the ground-breaking work of one state in the alignment CTE curriculum standards with adopted college and career readiness standards; and concluding with an attendee discussion on CTE’s role in achieving college and career readiness.
