Abstract

There is a vast range of diversity that constitutes what is African and what is Caribbean. The cross-cultural currents of ethnicities, religion, nationalities, languages, rhythms, artistic expressions, economics, and technologies offer much to the citizenship education and the global community. This proposed two-hour symposium will explore diasporic expressions of cultural and creative energy in education within the Caribbean and Africa. Panelists will share how local folklore, rhyme, rhythm, artistic expression, and research related to these are being, or can bridge culture and curriculum. This might be used to improve education, serve the public good, maintain community, and move beyond ‘knowing’ to informed action for the common good.
