Session Submission Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium brings together the work of four research partnerships between university researchers and large urban school districts conducting collaborative research to improve educational outcomes for English Language Learners. The studies examine (a) factors influencing graduation rates for ELL high school students; (b) characteristics of successful schools for ELLs; (c) comparative outcomes for four ELA intervention pathways in an urban California school district, and (d) an analysis of the academic language demands of biology curriculum in New York. Each presentation discusses the implications of findings for the practical improvement of education for ELLs in partner school districts.
