Abstract

This symposium brings together environmental, place-based, and ecological educator-theorists to reflect on our personal and collective inconsistencies and challenges. Despite the extensive cultural and philosophical changes needed, our efforts toward change are troubled by the dominant frameworks and modalities of the academy within which we work and the modern lifestyles within which we live. Presenters will explore places in their lives where they ride an uncertain line between reinscribing and resisting problematic norms. In the effort to educate beyond the human public good for the good of the world-at-large, we recognize that our own knowledge is not enough; it is the trying and trying again to live our lives according to an ecological ethic that may make a difference.
