Developing and Studying Educative Science and Mathematics Curriculum Materials

Abstract
The new Common Core State Standards in mathematics and science will likely require new curricula to be produced. By structuring the activities in science and mathematics classrooms, they are viewed as a way to “carry” reform ideas to students and a vehicle for instructional change at scale. Nevertheless, teachers face challenges when implementing novel curricula aimed more ambitious teaching and learning. There is a burgeoning interest in the development of educative curriculum materials, materials that aim to promote teacher, as well as student, learning. The purpose of this symposium is to bring together curriculum designers and educational researchers to identify and examine issues pertaining to the development and study of curriculum materials that support science and mathematics teacher learning.
