Fri, April 13, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom A

Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session

Abstract

This session will identify several factors associated with teacher retention and examine their relationship to retention plans of several teaching populations at particular risk of leaving the profession. All five papers in this session employed the use of secondary data analysis using the 2007-2008 Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS), administered and distributed by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES). The populations of special interest in this session include new teachers, African American teachers, special education teachers, and elementary teachers. Additionally, authors will discuss the role of demographic and contextual variables, teacher education coursework, teacher agency, and teacher leadership on retention plans of teachers within these populations.
