Partnerships With Immigrant Latino Youth and Families: Aligning Models and Practice From Childhood Through College

Abstract

This symposium brings together three multidisciplinary teams who work with and study partnerships that support Latino immigrant students and families as they navigate pathways from elementary school through college. These presentations will contrast and align models and strategies across the social sciences, using concepts of family empowerment and engagement, cultural and college identity pathways as intergenerational projects, funds of knowledge, and social capital. In presenting these models and related practices across the elementary, middle and high school, and college years, teams will present new empirical findings and tools for research and practice. This symposium contributes to building a common language to advance productive cycles of research, practice, and policy and access to education for immigrant students and their families.
