GSC Special Canadian Spotlight Fireside Session: Exploring the Diversity of Canadian Education Through Graduate Student Research

Abstract

This session serves to profile some of the innovative work that Canadian graduate students are engaged with in education that together provide perspectives on the diversity of Canadian education, while also offering a platform for graduate students to network and develop potential collaborations with future colleagues from North America and the world. The session provides a forum for eight Canadian doctoral students to showcase their dissertation research and to individually and collectively engage with participants, colleagues, and senior scholars across Canada and the world. Highlighting the diversity of research by these new and emerging scholars serves to provide an ideal context to critically reflect on how these research studies may be used to effect positive change. Each student will offer a five minute overview of their research, will present a poster highlighting their work, and will submit an accompanying commentary paper. An informal meet-and-greet to promote interaction among presenters and audience members will follow these brief presentations. These research studies, which reveal the depth of research being conducted and a breadth of research topics provide glimpses into research in Canadian contexts that have the potential to be utilized in multiple contexts by a variety of agents.
