Abstract

Although often used almost interchangeably, the terms “teaching” and “instruction” are
not identical in meaning. This presentation explores linguistic variations in uses of the terms “teaching” and “instruction” to highlight differences that illustrate evidence of dual
cognitive processing. The question for supervision in education is how to find ways that
support and promote excellence in both aspects of teacher classroom practice.
