Make Me a Match: Helping Underrepresented Students Make Good College Choices

Sun, April 15, 8:15 to 10:15am, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, West Room 114&115

Session Submission Type: Paper Session

Abstract

There is a broad consensus that our nation must increase the number of low-income and first generation students who enroll in college. But what should we do to help them choose college wisely? Many capable low-income students enroll in post-secondary programs for which they are academically over-qualified, even though they are more likely to graduate from more demanding institutions. This session will examine several college choice advising strategies and the role that philanthropy has played in developing these programs and approaches.
