Issues at the Top: School Board Governance and Women in the Superintendency

Abstract
This roundtable session includes papers that discuss issues affecting schools from the perspectives of research conducted on school board governance and the superintendency. Two papers focus on gender in the superintendency; one of these papers looks at the intersection of race and gender among African American women superintendents, while the other paper highlights results of research conducted with women who have departed their positions as superintendents. The other two papers focus on school board governance; one paper summarizes research conducted with school boards in the US, while the other paper highlights research conducted with school boards in Canada.
