Educational Leadership: Research as Praxis for the Public Good

Abstract

Papers in this symposium address issues such as the performing arts disciplines which provide us with ensemble-building methods, both intuitive and analytical, that can be applied to the development of intrapersonal intelligence in tomorrow’s educational leaders. They tackle the issue of community based organizations (CBOs) in Canada and the US in order to show that the use of educational research is widespread in these groups, but that at the same time, how and for what purposes research is used varies from group to group. In short, the papers in this symposium represent unique empirical and context specific pieces of research undertaken in various parts of the world, such as Australia, Canada, Cyprus, the UK, Germany, and the United States and provide us with a wealth of research data and findings about leadership values, qualities and actions through which school leaders can have an impact on teaching and learning for the public good, because, as the AERA theme goes, To Know is Not Enough.
