Abstract

The National Association for Multicultural Education is leading creation of a network that focuses on improving the quality of teaching of students who are culturally and linguistically diverse. Individuals may or may not officially represent organizations of which they are members. At this time, the network includes individuals from various universities, and leaders and staff of the following additional organizations: National Association for Bilingual Education, National American Indian Education Association, Rethinking Schools, Teachers 4 Social Justice, National Education Association, American Federation of Teachers, American Educational Research Association, New York Metro Center, and the Chicago Teachers’ Union. Membership will be fluid to allow for an organization or individual to join on an ad-hoc basis in collaboration on some activities but not others. The network’s goals include sharing ideas and resources, supporting one another's initiatives on a case by case basis, and collaborating on projects. The network will undertake the following activities.
