Learning From Text in Today’s Society: Reconciling Multiple Incoherent Sources of Information

Sat, April 14, 8:15 to 10:15am, Pan Pacific, Floor: Restaurant Level, Oceanview 7&8

Session Submission Type: Invited Session

Abstract

This session aims at bringing together researchers from several, mostly, European countries on the topic
of learning from text in particular when this involves contrasting information, resolving contradictions, of
confronting fragile sources of evidence. In today’s information society, students are confronted with very
disparate sources of information from a very early age. Therefore, learning no longer involves adding
knowledge into a system of relatively few (pre)conceptions, but involves integrating information from
many different and possibly conflicting resources. The current session puts together a number of relevant
empirical studies throughout Europe.
