Drama With Street Youth: Visual Methodology Dialogues Across Distance

Abstract

In this paper we aim to contribute to innovative research practices that overlap video and drama as a means to explore pressing youth issues in two urban Canadian centres. We both have collected video data in our respective independent research projects that share a common focus on youth, drama and space. In offering our analysis of this pedagogical and methodological experiment, we have found that this collaboration returned us to our own respective work equipped with new methodological and analytical tools that facilitated seeing our own visual data differently. We are suggesting that such collaborations are valuable pedagogical spaces for doctoral colleagues and through this dialogical experiment we are advocating for a fuller recognition of collective learning in doctoral research.
