Abstract

The case study utilizes interviews, observations, and document analysis to examine the experience of faculty and practitioners from a public Historically Black University participating in the Equity Scorecard process. The findings from the study demonstrate that the participants displayed an understanding of equity mindedness and gained a new understanding of deficit mindedness and how to interpret and use their institutional data. The participants also faced challenges within their Equity Scorecard experience that included communication and limited capacity in the form of time allocation and data processes. Despite these challenges, the participants noted that the Equity Scorecard process helped the institution become better equipped to respond to their state performance based funding policy and accreditation review.
