Abstract

Viewing life as something that was not predetermined and asserting that our conscious awareness of our unfinishedness is a critical aspect in understanding the human condition, Paulo Freire understood himself as a human being thoughtfully under construction, continuously reinventing his life and work. Moreover, Freire was a man of deep faith and was that rare intellect who walked in humility while authentically weaving the concepts of love and hope within the body of his scholarly work. Mindful of the implications it has for us today, this paper examines Paulo Freire’s unfinished completed life in light of the theological virtues which ultimately grounded his thought in fostering a pedagogy of freedom.
