Second Review of Career and Technical Education Research in Europe: A Critical Review and Agenda

Fri, April 4, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Convention Center, Floor: 100 Level, 104A

Abstract

This is the second research review on European Career and Technical Education (in Europe referred to as ‘Vocational education and training’, or VET). The population of papers (n=173) included those presented at a European Conference on VET, three scientific journals, and the publications in the Social Science Citation Index in 2012 on vocational education, training and learning. The papers were summarized, compared and research themes were identified. These are: VET and Society, Policy, organization and management, Teacher education and teacher behaviour, Curriculum, Learning and instruction, and Assessment and testing. The themes were evaluated. The field of vocational education and training is scattered, knowledge accumulation is needed, and theory and research methodology deserve attention. A research agenda is proposed.
