Abstract

Curriculum embeds and is embedded in context. Examination of the places of curriculum–making reveals complex understandings of context and culture that might occur in curricular situations and interactions. Furthermore, narrative deliberations of urban curriculum–making may shed light on some of the intricate relationships between culture and context among urban students and teachers. In this paper presentation, we discuss the findings of a narrative inquiry into experiences of curriculum in an urban–serving School of Education. Through examination of encounters of curriculum, we highlight how the curriculum may be situated in accordance with place, time, and social and personal connections and shed light on urban educational settings as rich sites of contextual and cultural curriculum negotiation.
