Sun, April 6, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Convention Center, Floor: 200 Level, Hall E

Abstract

In this study, the impact of a stand-alone university course on students’ civic engagement is examined. Using a pre-post course research design, the study reports on potential changes to six components of attitudes and civic engagement: civic action, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, political awareness, leadership skills, diversity attitudes, and social justice attitudes. Findings indicated that students made significant gains in all components except for leadership skills.
