In this paper, we present the preliminary findings of an ongoing exploratory qualitative study that investigates the following question: What kinds of new knowledge and understandings emerge when online instructors engage in practitioner inquiry and reflect upon their own practice, teaching, and learning in their courses? The study involved the instructors of three online courses that are focused on different topics of diversity and multicultural education. The findings suggest that participating in a practitioner research project helped the online instructors improve their teaching and practice, reflect on problems/challenges that occurred in their courses, and find a supportive community to further explore issues of diversity that affected them personally and professionally.
