Understanding the Art in Science and the Science in Art Through Crosscutting Concepts

Fri, April 4, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Marriott, Floor: Fourth Level, Franklin 7

Abstract

We propose an interdisciplinary science and art curriculum that serves as a basis for a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Science (STEAM) course that will be meaningful to middle and science teachers both from a pedagogical perspective and a practical basis as it uses the cross cutting concepts emanating from the new Framework for K-12 Science Education. We advocate collaboration between teachers across disciplinary boundaries. We present an example of how the curriculum might look using the cross cutting concepts, followed by a brief explanation of how two of them represent a conceptual framework for STEAM activities, lessons, or even units.
