Parental involvement is an important factor in successful academic and career outcomes for students who are d/Deaf or hard-of-hearing (DHH). More specifically, parents’ play an important role for students who are DHH during the transition planning process. This paper presents results from an exploratory study of 56 parents of individuals who are DHH focusing on their experiences during transition planning and expectations for their children’s future. In general, parents positively rated their experiences with the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process and held high expectations for both their child’s future educational attainment and employment. Differences in expectations and experiences emerged, however, among parents whose children had co-occurring disabilities and who self-identified as DHH.
