The Teachers: Theater and Knowledge Mobilization

Abstract

To mobilize the knowledge that was generated from a five year multi-site ethnographic project that studied “at-risk” youth and their teachers in four countries, Canada, Taiwan, India and the United States, this research team engaged a highly acclaimed professional playwright, who specialized in Verbatim Theatre, to construct a play from their data. In this proposed presentation, the researchers will offer excerpts of this research-informed performance, in order to generate scholarly audience feedback but also to argue the merits of this modality of knowledge mobilization that broadens the dissemination practices of research and capitalizes on theatre’s affective domain to explore teacher-to-student and student-to-student exchange.
