Research on Research: Extending Methodologies of Transnational Field Research in Education

Abstract

This presentation contributes to 2014 AERA themes to extend methodologies and field based inquiry in transnational research. Utilizing an exploratory case study approach this presentation offers insight to conducting and planning collaborative field research in education with colleagues located in different parts of the world. To begin, the theoretical framework of the study is defined with a brief overview of social science transnational field research. Findings are contextualized as cohesive methodologies aligned with the unique elements of transnational field research in education. Recommendations are outlined as a conceptual framework for conducting transnational field research of pressing education events. Key themes include the importance of cultural oriented methodological strategies, ethnographic design, and organization of research into cross-cultural networks.
