From Reading Research to Reading Policy: Construction of the Ideal Student

Abstract

This paper reports how I, as a PhD Candidate, used an ethnographic approach to examine the construction of the ideal student within the environment of mandated literacy curriculum. This study will report how students were active subjects in the classroom, and how students performed a constructed identity through self-disciplining their speech, actions, and interactions with others.
