Sat, April 5, 2:45 to 4:15pm, Convention Center, Floor: 200 Level, Hall E

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a family-centered intervention for children with disabilities to enhance language skills. Within the framework of Response to Intervention (RTI), educators should provide evidence-based interventions to maximize student learning outcomes and to reduce behavior problems. To enhance a child’s ability to learn functional language, the evidence-based intervention based upon Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Verbal Behavior (VB) Approach was utilized. The results revealed that targeted children exhibited immediate and significant gains upon implementation of the ABA VB intervention and that those gains were maintained after the cessation of intervention. Further evidence of efficacy of this intervention was found in the improvement in parents’ ratings of acceptance of the ABA VB approach and parental stress.
