Left Unsaid: The Role of Psychological Contracts in Faculty Departure

Abstract

Faculty leave higher education institutions for many reasons. This study builds on past research on faculty and psychological contracts by (a) examining the psychological contracts of leaving faculty (b) comparing them to the psychological contracts of faculty in a matched cohort who stayed and (c) considering graduate school, field, and peer influences on faculty expectations.
