The study sought to uncover the driving forces behind career-changers to choose education as their new profession. Survey data revealed that candidates were balanced between more idealistic motivators and more pragmatic ones. Idealistic motivators included noble causes such as making a difference or sharing a love for learning. More pragmatic responses included the perceived benefits of flexible schedules and job security. The findings and systematic approach of this study allowed for more than just a descriptive response to the research questions; it also provided the researchers with an insight that can be used to recruit potential candidates or to redirect those candidates whose motivations seemed counter to effective educators.
