This study identifies teacher behaviors that predict high or low levels of student satisfaction in online courses. It investigates the relationship between 10 predictive variables and satisfaction in online courses. Archived online courses at a rural community college are analyzed for the presence of 10 predictive variables, with each variable counted within the course and within each course activity (assignment). Student satisfaction is measured using end-of-course evaluations. Predictive data are collected at the student level, the assignment level, and the course level and correlated with student satisfaction at the course level. Intercorrelations are used to suggest the reasons that particular instructor behaviors are correlated with high and low levels of student satisfaction.
