This paper presentation aims to advance teacher leader (TL) theory-building methods by looking across sets of data and previous findings through innovative and appropriate theoretical lenses. Secondarily, we present findings that flow from this approach, which lend insight into the factors shaping teacher perceptions of TLs within schools. Through teacher career frameworks, we examine how and why teachers accept or reject TLs within a professional development context.
Findings include the importance of focusing on the nexus between teachers, TLs, and time; and that TL roles need to be constructed in a way that their teacher-identity is maintained as the primary identifier to staff.
