Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate preservice reading teachers’ efficacy during a tutoring experience at a local elementary school. This research differs from previous studies in that it measured preservice teachers’ reading efficacy on a task they had recently completed, as opposed to how they felt they could complete a task in the future. Participants were preservice teachers in a state required reading methods course. During the course, participants completed the RTSES and structured diaries to assess their efficacy beliefs. Results showed that preservice teachers reported a significant increase on both efficacy scales.
