Abstract

This research examined the impact of a field based reading course and student teaching on middle level preservice teachers’ reading and general efficacy over the course of a year. The Teacher Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES) was adapted to create a reading specific teacher efficacy scale, which is referred to as the RTSES. This scale was used to investigate change in middle level preservice teachers’ efficacy while they were in a field-based reading course in a middle school professional development program. Analyses of data from three time points showed that reading efficacy and general efficacy gradually grew.
