The Validity and Reliability of Information From a Formative Walk-Through Observation Instrument

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the validity and reliability of information from a formative walk-through observation instrument designed for use in an ongoing professional development program in formative assessment. The formative walk-through differs from traditional classroom walk-throughs in that the administrators are intended to learn something about student learning in their buildings in addition to their supervising teachers in improving their practices. Both quantitative and qualitative analyses supported the validity and reliability of information from the walk-through instrument.
