Mon, April 7, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Terrace IV

Abstract

This study explores how Asian American experiences are depicted in U.S. high school history textbooks in Virginia. Four U.S. history textbooks adopted in Virginia were selected as the data source. The analytic framework was developed from the scholarship of collective memories. Content analysis of the textbooks revealed the continued challenges as well as the progress in representing Asian Americans within the history of the U.S. compared to previous studies.
