Purpose: The purpose of this study is to clarify through multilevel analysis the effects of the professional community on the lesson improvement of teachers in school organizations.
Data sources:This article is based on survey returns from teachers in 33 schools: 638 teachers in FY 2009 and 644 teachers in FY 2010.
Results:(1) The disparities in the lesson improvement of individual teachers were manifested within schools rather than between schools. (2) The variance in the lesson improvement of individual teachers was in the professional community’s recognition of the teacher. (3) If the teacher feels the principal’s support, the teacher’s recognition of the professional community will likely lead to lesson improvement.
