Abstract

Jing Lin will discuss the ontology of Confucianism, which emphasizes the intricate interconnections of the cosmos, human society and individuals. The interconnection is in the qi (energy) level, spiritual level and emotional level, and virtues (intents, words and deeds) undergird this correspondence. Jing Lin will discuss the epistemology of Confucianism, examining the source of knowledge from a Confucian system of practice that includes self-cultivation, gaining knowledge, obtaining wisdom, serving the society and bringing peace and harmony to the world. In terms of methodology, meditation, arts, self-reflection, and other contemplative modalities are examined to arrive at an understanding of the spiritual experiences of self as a researcher and the subject of study.
