Bai and Cohen (Cohen, et al, 2012) focus on Zen and the (Internal) Martial Arts as the ground for an integrated new research paradigm that is nondual in the sense that the research method and the research results (Bai, 1997, 2002 & 2003) are seamlessly integrated. This paradigm is about integrating the processes of mind, body, heart, soul, and spirit so as to facilitate full awareness, awakeness, and aliveness in human beingness. We make the case that the Zen-based research paradigm specializes in shifting the researcher’s consciousness from the instrumentalist to the intrinsic perception of, hence action towards, the world.
