The purpose of this presentation will be to explain findings from a survey study investigating why a group of 27 individuals affiliated with the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate volunteered to be part of a large research project aimed at understanding the changes and challenges that occurred across 21 colleges of education that designed/redesigned their EdD programs.
To accomplish this an online questionnaire with closed and opened-ended items based on Nambisan and Baron’s (2007) categories of a sense of belonging was used.Descriptive statistics were computed and a constant comparative approach used. Results were separated by group and showed a sense of belonging matters at several levels and that this sense varies by group.
