Learning From the Learners: Research for Rescripting Educational Failure

Abstract

The mixed-method field study was conducted in two 9th grade ELA classes in an inner-city high school in NYC. The participating students were all categorized at-high-risk for failure/ dropping out due to past absences, unpredictable behavior and poor academic achievements. Our aim was to identify the underlying dynamics that have been leading these students on an unstoppable journey of academic failure and to propose ways of rescripting this preconceived narrative of failure into one of possibilities and hope
