Ensuring Test Integrity in Statewide Assessment: Erasure and Person-Fit Analyses

Sat, April 5, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Terrace IV

Abstract

Nowadays, states have been trying to find cheating on student assessments, according to several experts who point to Texas and New Jersey as examples of a more vigorous approach. One common set of results scrutinized are erasure analyses from paper/pencil administrations. Similarly, the person-fit index also can find potential testing irregularities that may have been perpetrated by a student or someone with access to a student’s answer sheet. This study attempted to identify anomalies in state wide tests utilizing multiple methods (erasure analysis and person-fit analysis). Furthermore, this study provided policy-makers with pragmatic context in which the investigations and techniques were applied in addition to discussion about the policy and legal limitations that often hinder significant follow-up.
