Exploring Family-Scholar Narratives: Explicating Self as Teacher, Teacher Educator, and Academic Researcher

Abstract

We explore the potential contributions of family-scholar narratives and collective biography to understandings of self as researcher, teacher, and teacher educator. These narratives involve a continuing dialogue between family members who are in academic careers and are engaged in research on their own practice. We build upon earlier presentations themed around the embodiment of anger as intersecting with gendered socialization into the academy by exploring anger in relation to the experiences of mentoring and being mentored into academia. We contend that this form of research focuses on the emotional and embodied nature of professional learning, an essential component for understanding our professional selves and professional selves in relation to others.
