This paper reports on research that examined how eight secondary mathematics teachers used interactive whiteboards (IWBs) as an instructional tool for whole-class problem solving. By classifying the participants’ views in terms of the different combinations of technological pedagogical and content knowledge (TPACK) domains, the study’s findings delineate how teachers approached problem solving as a shared experience. Participants’ IWB-based lessons portrayed problem solving using three instructional goals: to model the mathematics, to explore mathematical reasoning, or to share mathematical authority while conducting it.
