Understanding implementation is essential to program evaluation. With the increased classroom use of digital tools, traditional methods of measuring implementation seem to fall short. Learning analytics (LA) may help researchers solve this problem. In our paper, we contend that educational researchers should leverage LA to measure fidelity of implementation (FOI). We also share results from an ongoing study of a digital curriculum in which we collected LA data to measure FOI. The LA data provided us with a nuanced picture of teacher use of the curriculum, and in this way support our argument that evaluations of digital educational innovations should leverage LA data in the ways we articulate. The paper also suggests areas where future research will be needed.
