This paper reports on our qualitative content analysis of articles in Theory and Research in Social Education and The Social Studies published from 2006-2011. Our findings are divided into 6 theoretical perspectives related to each of the six authors, with an emphasis placed on minimally represented areas such as multicultural education. These perspectives provide a lens that illustrates the recent landscape of two social studies educational research journals. While we do not claim that the two journals represent the field, we claim that they serve as one indicator about what is of interest to the editors and readers of these journals. It could also indicate the number of submissions on different subjects, which would be an area of future research.
