Book Choice and Adolescent Reading Motivation

Abstract

This study focused on the perceptions of sixty-one students from a southwestern regional university regarding the issue of book choice and their own reading motivation . The modified instrument utilized in this study was the Adolescent Motivation to Read Profile (Pitcher, et al., 2007) designed to determine if the motivation of individuals to read increases if they are given the opportunity to select school-related reading materials based on personal interest. The results indicated self-selected book choice related to adolescent reading motivation.
