Leadership Dispositions and the Measurement Gap: A Literature Review

Sun, April 6, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Convention Center, Floor: 100 Level, 115A

Abstract

This paper reports results of a comprehensive review of literature regarding leader dispositions. The primary objective of this cross-disciplinary literature review was to identify leadership dispositions uncovered through previous research that are associated with organizational success generally, and school and student success specifically. With a view to applying knowledge of leader dispositions to assist in preparing and developing effective school principals, a secondary objective was to identify tools designed to assess leadership dispositions, and to classify their psychometric properties. Finally, analysis was conducted to determine the relationship between the leadership dispositions identified in the literature as being associated with organizational/school success, and the dispositions measured by available disposition assessment tools.
